About

A long, long time ago I left my hometown in Northern Wisconsin to attend the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. After graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design I moved to Milwaukee, WI for my first graphic design job, and then five years later I was off to the West for a two-year adventure in publishing. The following six years found me art directing from a skyscraper in downtown Chicago before returning to Minneapolis where I would write, design, and creative direct away the next decade.

And then I came home. I now do all the things, print and digital, for all the places from the Northwoods of Wisconsin. No joke, there's high speed internet bouncing around up here and an airport 5 minutes from my house ready to zip me to Chicago (seasonally) or Minneapolis twice a day. I'm remote, but not isolated, and I love to travel.

I have extensive experience in higher education, apparel, k-12 fitness and nutrition, legal, travel publishing, manufacturing systems, and hodags. Like most other trained creatives, I can design and write for any category, I enjoy learning new things.

My 15+ years of experience have mainly been in-house, even the last 6+ years at an agency were more akin to in-house than agency due to our client relationships and deep higher-ed knowledge base. I love living and breathing an organizations mission and the opportunity to develop deep relationships across departments. It enables me to take the long-view and do better, stickier, true brand-building work. It’s also allowed me to set external agencies up for success—tapping them in and setting the stage for big, new, juicy thinking and then operationalizing that work across the business, including creative.

I'm available for full-time roles, freelance projects, and contract opportunities. Let's chat.

Recommendations

“Jill is both a creative and strategic mind. She is thoughtful and diligent in her approach, combining conceptual ideas with analytical thinking aimed at delivering against business goals. Jill is one of those creatives that really "gets" marketing and the business side of creativity. She can connect the dots at a high-level, while still being able to pick up the ball and get into the work when the team needs her."

BETH ALLEN / CREATIVE OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

"Jill is a smart, strategic design director and brand story teller. She knows how to connect brands to their end user/customer/student and has an impressive ability to always keep them in the heart and mind of creative. During our time together, she routinely brought innovation, creative inspiration and whole lot of fun. I would work with Jill again without hesitation and she would be a great addition to any team."
